Measuring What Matters

At MTN, impact is measured not only by the number of people reached, but by the long-term outcomes and changes created in people’s lives. We apply a Theory of Change methodology to understand how our investments contribute to improved access to opportunity, strengthened livelihoods, enhanced wellbeing and greater socio-economic inclusion.

This ensures that every programme is designed with a clear pathway from investment to impact. Our approach guides how we design, implement, measure and continuously improve our programmes. By linking inputs, activities, outputs, outcomes and long-term impact, we strengthen accountability, support evidence-based decision-making and ensure resources are directed towards interventions that create sustainable value for individuals, communities and society. This outcomes-based approach enables us to demonstrate both the scale and the lasting impact of our investments.

Outcomes over Outputs
We measure success not only by the number of people reached, but by the lasting changes created in people's lives, including improved access to education, healthcare, livelihoods, and economic opportunities.
Evidence-Based Impact
We use data, monitoring, and evaluation to understand what works, strengthen accountability, and continuously improve programme effectiveness and outcomes.
Scale Through Partnerships
We collaborate with governments, NGOs, development agencies, academic institutions, and technology partners to extend reach, mobilise resources, and accelerate impact across Africa.

Scaling Impact to 2030

Building on this foundation, we are partnering across sectors to expand access. Despite significant advances in connectivity, millions of people across Africa remain excluded from the opportunities created by the digital economy due to persistent barriers to access, affordability, devices, digital skills and participation.

Closing these gaps requires greater scale, stronger partnerships and sustained investment. Building on more than two decades of community impact, we are leveraging technology as a catalyst for socio-economic development, with the ambition to actively reach 5 million people by 2030 through initiatives that expand digital access, enable meaningful participation and unlock opportunity across the continent.

Our Impact targets by 2030
