Room of Safety: Empowering Youth to Lead the Digital Safety Conversation
As technology continues to transform our lives at an unprecedented pace, the need to equip young people with the tools to navigate the digital world safely has never been more urgent. The internet offers immense opportunity — but also growing risks, from cyberbullying and harmful content to digital exploitation. To truly unlock the power of connectivity, we must ensure that Africa’s youth are not only online, but informed, protected, and in control of their digital experiences.
That’s why MTV Base, Africa’s leading youth and pop culture platform, is taking the lead in a bold new campaign to elevate youth voices and drive awareness around internet safety. In partnership with MTN, MTV Base is launching Room of Safety — a compelling 10-part short-form series created for young people, by young people.
This series brings together authentic youth voices from across the continent to unpack the everyday realities of being online — from unsafe interactions and harmful content to the power of reporting what’s not right. It’s about sparking honest conversation, shifting mindsets, and building a digital culture grounded in care, respect, and responsibility.
At MTN, we are proud to stand behind this important initiative as part of our “Help Children Be Children” campaign. By supporting platforms like MTV Base, we are backing young people to lead the way — on their own terms, with their own voices — toward a safer, more empowering digital future.
To every young person: this is your movement. Speak up, look out for one another, and help make the internet a space where everyone can thrive. To parents, educators, policymakers and platforms — let’s join forces and make the digital world safer, together.
