What is 16 Days of Activism?
Each year, from November 25 to December 10, the world unites to observe the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. This international campaign serves as a powerful reminder of our collective responsibility to end gender-based violence and create a world where women and girls live free from violence.
Born from the activism of the Women's Global Leadership Institute in 1991, the 16 Days campaign has evolved into a global movement that mobilizes individuals, organizations, and governments to address this pervasive issue. This year, under the theme "UNiTE! Invest to Prevent Violence against Women and Girls," the campaign emphasizes the crucial role of investment in both time and resources to effectively combat gender-based violence.
MTN recognizes the urgent need to invest in prevention and elimination efforts and is committed to working closely with our employees, stakeholders, and partners to make a meaningful contribution to this cause. Together, we can amplify the voices of survivors, challenge harmful gender norms, and create a better world for all.

The human cost of violence against women and girls is incalculable
What is MTN doing to fight GBV and increase gender equality?
UN Women underscores the essential truth that gender equality transcends fairness – it is a fundamental human right. Realizing this right is pivotal in tackling some of the world’s most critical challenges, ranging from economic crises and healthcare disparities to the urgent issues of climate change, violence against women, and intensifying conflicts.
These challenges disproportionately impact women, yet it is also women who embody the potential and leadership necessary to forge effective solutions. At MTN, we understand that impactful solutions must originate not only within our organization but also from the wider community.
In our commitment to the 16 Days of Activism, we are taking decisive steps: engaging with our women’s groups and employees, collaborating with GBV organisations, governments, and stakeholders to provide support and resources, and investing in technology solutions that play an active role in education, prevention, and support, beyond just the 16 Days.

MTN's commitments to supporting gender equality

What can you do to fight GBV?
Tackling gender-based violence is a vital collective responsibility that demands the unwavering commitment of individuals, communities, and organizations. While UN Women’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence serves as a pivotal moment to amplify our collective voice, the fight against GBV extends far beyond these designated days. It is an ongoing battle that requires sustained engagement and action throughout the year.
Do something! Together, our individual efforts can create a transformative impact in the fight against GBV. Actions include raising awareness, educating and empowering others, supporting survivors, advocating for policy change, promoting gender equality, engaging men and boys, participating in community programs, fundraising and volunteering, providing mentorship and education, offering self-defence classes, utilizing art and media, collaborating with local organizations, supporting research, and speaking out against violence.
At MTN, we are always looking to do more, and the 16 Days of Activism against GBV is just the beginning.
